On slide gates, the critical dimensions are the rail-to-post offset and the gap between the gate face and the rack, because a gate that’s shifted 3/8″ will eat a rack in a season. Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate sags at the latch corner by half an inch or more. That’s usually a hinge weld stretching or a hinge pin wallowing out its hole. The motor keeps pushing, but the gate never seats square, and the limit switch starts hunting. We see this most often on Murphy gates that face the prevailing wind: the leaf acts like a sail.
• You hear a creak or pop when the gate reverses direction. Reversal loads a weld in the opposite direction. A fresh crack opens and closes with every cycle, and the sound changes pitch as the crack propagates. It won’t heal itself.
• The motor runs but the gate moves slowly or stalls mid-travel. Often the gate leaf has twisted, or a hinge has bound up, so the operator is fighting friction. The motor isn’t failing; the steel is. Fix the steel and the motor usually returns to normal speed.
• You can see daylight through a weld, or rust stains running from a joint. Texas humidity and the occasional Murphy freeze-thaw cycle open hairline cracks into visible gaps. Rust streaks are the giveaway; by the time you see the stain, the weld has been compromised for weeks.
• The gate post is leaning, or the concrete around the post has cracked. Post brackets and gate-thrust loads eventually win if the post wasn’t set deep. We fix this by fabricating a wider base plate, core-drilling and re-anchoring, or in the worst case, recasting the post footing with a welded cage. Welding current can arc through the controller board and destroy it, and a gate leaf that shifts during welding can pinch or crush.
