FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The Murphy Owner’s Guide

FAAC gate welding and fabrication in Murphy typically runs $260-$680 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked hinge, rebuilding a bent gate leaf, or fabricating a new bracket set. Most jobs are completed same-day because we carry raw steel stock, a mobile welder, and FAAC-specific hinge and bracket templates on the truck. The usual story we hear: the gate started dragging, then the motor started straining, then the weld let go at the hinge or the post bracket, and the gate now sags or won’t close square. That’s the moment to call, before the operator burns itself out trying to move a gate the steel no longer supports.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

This covers the full FAAC swing-gate and slide-gate range we see in Murphy driveways: the 390, 400, 412, 415, 750, 770, 844, C720, C721, S418, S450H, and the newer 390 UHS and E124 lines. The compatibility question is rarely about the motor; it’s about the steel the motor is bolted to or the gate leaf the hinge carries. On FAAC swing systems, the factory hinge pattern and the post bracket spacing are what matter: some Murphy gates built in the early 2000s use a 4-bolt hinge plate at 90mm centers, while newer installations run 120mm. We measure the bolt centers before cutting anything. On slide gates, the critical dimensions are the rail-to-post offset and the gap between the gate face and the rack, because a gate that’s shifted 3/8″ will eat a rack in a season. For OEM versus aftermarket: FAAC’s own hinge kits are good steel, but we fabricate a fair number of replacement brackets from 1/4″ plate because the gate’s original geometry drifted and a factory bracket simply won’t lay flat anymore. If we can make the factory part work, we use it. If we can’t, we build what fits and photograph it.

Compatibility quick check

  • Bolt centers: 90mm, 100mm, or 120mm on the hinge plate or post bracket.
  • Gate leaf weight: FAAC 415 and 770 operators want the leaf under 880 lbs.; fabricated reinforcement needs to account for that limit or the motor gets overworked.
  • Rail-to-rack gap: slide gates need consistent clearance; we set it with a shim pack and log the measurement.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags at the latch corner by half an inch or more. That’s usually a hinge weld stretching or a hinge pin wallowing out its hole. The motor keeps pushing, but the gate never seats square, and the limit switch starts hunting. We see this most often on Murphy gates that face the prevailing wind: the leaf acts like a sail.
  • You hear a creak or pop when the gate reverses direction. Reversal loads a weld in the opposite direction. A fresh crack opens and closes with every cycle, and the sound changes pitch as the crack propagates. It won’t heal itself.
  • The motor runs but the gate moves slowly or stalls mid-travel. Often the gate leaf has twisted, or a hinge has bound up, so the operator is fighting friction. The motor isn’t failing; the steel is. Fix the steel and the motor usually returns to normal speed.
  • You can see daylight through a weld, or rust stains running from a joint. Texas humidity and the occasional Murphy freeze-thaw cycle open hairline cracks into visible gaps. Rust streaks are the giveaway; by the time you see the stain, the weld has been compromised for weeks.
  • The gate post is leaning, or the concrete around the post has cracked. Post brackets and gate-thrust loads eventually win if the post wasn’t set deep. We fix this by fabricating a wider base plate, core-drilling and re-anchoring, or in the worst case, recasting the post footing with a welded cage. This is a half-day to full-day job depending on the footing depth.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

We price every FAAC welding and fabrication job in Murphy with a written line item before the first weld goes down. Here’s the honest range:

  • Cracked hinge repair: $260-$390, including grinding out the old crack, welding, and re-aligning the gate leaf.
  • Broken or bent hinge replacement (fabricated): $320-$520, including removing the old leaf, building a new hinge set, and resetting gate travel.
  • Post bracket rebuild or reinforcement: $380-$580, including new 1/4″ plate, anchor bolts, and re-squaring the post.
  • Full gate leaf rebuild (warped or rusted through): $550-$680, including cutting out bad sections, welding in new steel, and re-hanging.
  • Slide-gate rail or rack repair: $310-$490, including aligning the rail, welding cracked joints, and re-shimming the rack.

The price includes labor, steel, welding consumables, and a photo log of every weld and adjustment. We don’t charge a trip fee for jobs inside Murphy. Every job is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld or the alignment isn’t right, we make it right at no charge within a full year. The price you agree to is the price you pay; under Haven Standard Clause 1, the written quote comes first and nothing gets added after the fact.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the straight answer. You can safely check the obvious: look for visible cracks at the hinges and post brackets, measure the sag at the latch corner with a level, and note any rust staining. What you should not do is weld on a gate that’s under motor tension, or that still has an active FAAC operator attached and powered. Welding current can arc through the controller board and destroy it, and a gate leaf that shifts during welding can pinch or crush. Disconnecting and re-rigging a FAAC operator isn’t the same as pulling a fuse. If the gate is cracked at a hinge, call us at (469) 613-2832. We’ll bring the welder, the shims, and the FAAC-specific hinge templates, and we’ll leave you with before-and-after photos of every joint we touched.
